Dances of India 48th Annual Performance

  • Skip Viragh Center for the Arts (map)

Dances of India is one of the oldest classical Indian dance companies in the US! We are now in our 48th season and are a two-time National Endowment for the Arts Award honoree. The first half of our show consists of classical Bharata Natyam and experimental work. Guest Artists Patrick Suzeau--Professor Emeritus of Contemporary Dance at KU--, professional Bharata Natyam dancer Sanjay Shantaram from Bengaluru, India, and professional Bharata Natyam dancer Kiran Rajagopalan--whose roots are in STL!--will perform. The second half our show is the originally-scripted and narrated Nine Jewels: Music, Art, & Splendor in the Court of Akbar the Great. This features live vocal performance by Sanjay Shantaram. Local artist Isaiah Di Lorenzo will participate along with local dancer Thomas Proctor.
