Dances of India 48th Annual Performance
Dances of India is one of the oldest classical Indian dance companies in the US! We are now in our 48th season and are a two-time National Endowment for the Arts Award honoree. The first half of our show consists of classical Bharata Natyam and experimental work. Guest Artists Patrick Suzeau--Professor Emeritus of Contemporary Dance at KU--, professional Bharata Natyam dancer Sanjay Shantaram from Bengaluru, India, and professional Bharata Natyam dancer Kiran Rajagopalan--whose roots are in STL!--will perform. The second half our show is the originally-scripted and narrated Nine Jewels: Music, Art, & Splendor in the Court of Akbar the Great. This features live vocal performance by Sanjay Shantaram. Local artist Isaiah Di Lorenzo will participate along with local dancer Thomas Proctor.
